Barry Bonds Pleads Not Guilty

Barry Bonds showed up in a US District Court and entered a plea of not guilty to four counts of perjury for lying and one count of obstruction of justice to a federal grand jury in the investigation into BALCO. This was in response to questioning Bonds faced about having used steroids in the past. The testimony and evidence was made into a book, "Game of Shadows" which will be a movie on HBO soon. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for February 7th in which Bonds may not attend. Bonds released a statement on his website. "I still have confidence in the judicial system and especially in the judgment of the citizens who will decide this case," he said. "And I know that when all of this is over, I will be vindicated because I am innocent." Meanwhile, Bonds is a free agent and may have trouble getting signed because of his age, lack of mobility, and these charges hanging over his head.
